Blame Marketing
Blame Marketing lyrics
A song about sales blaming marketing for bad leads
Lyrics
We sent the names by noon
Clean list, clean handoff
Firm size, role, and budget
On paper, that’s a lock
You call it “junk” at five
With your coffee and your shrug
But I saw those clicks and fills
I saw the proof we dug
You want the deal
We want the spark
You want the names
We did our part
You say “not real”
We say “not enough”
Same old war room
Same old bluff
Qualified, qualified
You said they’re garbage
Qualified, qualified
We watched you torched it
Don’t blame the map
If you missed the road
Qualified, qualified
That’s what you sold
Your rep says “bad timing”
Our page says “hot intent”
Your follow-up was a ghost
Our form was one more event
You want a miracle
We want a clear line
You call the pipeline broken
We call it your reply
We fed the machine
You fed the fire
Now every missed meeting
Turns into a liar
You want the deal
We want the spark
You want the names
We did our part
You say “not real”
We say “not enough”
Same old war room
Same old bluff
Qualified, qualified
You said they’re garbage
Qualified, qualified
We watched you torched it
Don’t blame the map
If you missed the road
Qualified, qualified
That’s what you sold
Maybe the truth
Lives in the gap
Not in your blame
Not in our trap
But don’t come for us
With a busted grin
If you close one lead
We’ll bring ten more in
Qualified, qualified
You said they’re garbage
Qualified, qualified
We watched you torched it
Don’t blame the map
If you missed the road
Qualified, qualified
That’s what you sold
Qualified, qualified
Say it to our face
Qualified, qualified
If you want the case
We did the work
You missed the goal
Qualified, qualified
That’s the whole war, whole war
Behind the Lyrics
On a bridge, when something goes wrong, the first question is always the same: who had the watch? Nobody asks it kindly. At sea it's at least a fair question, because the handover is written down and signed. Marketing is less fair. Long before I ran my own agency, I sat in rooms with sales as the marketing manager who had brought them the leads. Marketing has the watch on the front half of the funnel. We build the list, run the checklist and hand it over clean. And somewhere between the handover and the close, the story rewrites itself so that the whole voyage was our fault. I didn't write this out of spite. It's about a pattern I kept noticing across years of campaigns, clients and companies. Sales blames marketing for the leads. Leadership blames marketing for the pipeline. Everyone has a theory about how they'd run acquisition better. Nobody volunteers to swap seats. Soulful house, because it's warm and groove-first and makes you move even while the lyrics are mid-argument, which describes every pipeline review I've ever sat through. The room still has to function. You learn to dance through the blame instead of around it. My favourite part is the chorus. You'll hear why.
