Unpopular Opinion:
Unpopular Opinion: lyrics
A song about staged “unpopular opinion” posts built for clicks
Lyrics
You post in black and white
Like you climbed out of a crisis
Then you land on your lesson
Like you invented the advice
A tear in the caption
A grin in the mirror
You call it being honest
But your angle gets clearer
"Unpopular opinion"
And it sounds so rehearsed
You light up a small flame
Just to sell us the burn
I read the whole thread
It was built for the click
A pain you can package
A wound you can pitch
You say you almost quit
Then you circle back and sell it
You say you hate the game
While you still want us to dwell in it
Forty seven thoughts
And none of them hit
Forty seven thoughts
And I still don't buy it
Forty seven thoughts
You dress up the grin
Forty seven thoughts
Say the truth, then spin
Humble-brag with a bow on it
"Just lucky, I suppose"
Then you name every win
Like it's embroidered in gold
You say "this one change"
Like a mentor in a hoodie
But it's just a soft brag
With a moral at the booty
And now the machine learned
Your little stage pose
It spits out a paragraph
In your favorite clothes
Same throat, same lesson
Same pain, same flex
Same "here's what I learned"
From a life you can't check
You say it's raw
But it shines like a demo
You call it brave
But it reads like a memo
Forty seven thoughts
And none of them hit
Forty seven thoughts
And I still don't buy it
Forty seven thoughts
You dress up the grin
Forty seven thoughts
Say the truth, then spin
I don't need your breakdown
Written for applause
I don't need a filter
Wrapped around the flaws
If it's real, it shakes
If it's true, it stays
If it only works on Mondays
Put it back in the tray
Forty seven thoughts
And none of them hit
Forty seven thoughts
And I still don't buy it
Forty seven thoughts
You dress up the grin
Forty seven thoughts
Say the truth, then spin
Forty seven thoughts
Forty seven thoughts
Forty seven thoughts
Now tell me what you lost
Behind the Lyrics
I didn't wake up one day and decide to write a song about LinkedIn. It built up, scroll after scroll, watching one content format explode across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok at the same time, powered by the same AI tools everyone suddenly had. What got me wasn't the volume. It was how good everyone suddenly became at "being vulnerable" in the exact same handful of formats: "Unpopular Opinion:", "Unsolicited advice", "Hot take", "POV:". Pick an opener, insert crisis, insert lesson, post. The colon in the title isn't a typo. It's the literal opener people are using. Being in Bulgaria makes it worse. It's a small market, so when a format lands, half your network repeats it within a month. And what really makes me cringe is watching people translate these posts into Bulgarian instead of localising them. Not adapting the idea to how people here actually talk, just running it through a translator and posting it as their own voice. "Forty seven thoughts" is a dig at something I keep spotting in AI text: the number 47. "At 2:47am." "47 people showed up." The models seem to have a favourite fake-precise number, and once you notice it you can't stop. (I've caught it in my own catalogue too. I'm not claiming immunity.) The AI verse came straight from my inbox. In two weeks I got somewhere between ten and fifteen cold emails opening with "Hi {first_name}... just kidding :D". Different senders, presumably different tools, the exact same bit. Nobody checked whether the joke was worn out before hitting send. Phonk started as pure instinct. I like phonk. It only made sense afterwards: these posts have always smelled a bit funky to me, in the musty, slightly off sense of the word. My brain got from "funky" to "phonk" before I'd consciously decided anything, and the techno grit went on top.
